IBRAM VISITS MINING SCHOOL AND GORCEIX FOUNDATION TO INTRODUCE WMC

Delegates of the Brazilian Mining Association (IBRAM – www.ibram.org.br), including the Director of Environmental Affairs, Rinaldo Mancin, the Mining and Geology Coordinator, Edmilson Costa, and Minas Gerais consultant João Carlos de Melo, visited, on May 27, the School of Mines of Federal University of Ouro Preto (UFOP) and the Gorceix Foundation. At the occasion, the Association's staff were welcomed by the School of Mines Professor and Director, Issamu Endo, and by Gorceix Foundation's Professor and CEO, Cristovam Paes. The aim of the meeting was to present the World Mining Congress (WMC), a global mining event to be organized by IBRAM in 2016, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

According to the Director of Mineral Affairs, the visit was part of the IBRAM strategy of intensifying contacts with Brazilian universities that have stood out in the training of mining professionals.

According to Mancin, the participation of the Ouro Preto centennial School of Mines is a key factor for the WMC success. "The School of Mines offered their full support for the event. New ideas and strategies for the WMC have come about from this first contact", he says.

The Gorceix Foundation and the School of Mines' corporate alumni are also going to be partners in the promotion of WMC 2016 and to take active part in its planning.

The meeting also featured the attendance of Professor and Director of the School of Engineering corporate alumni, Adilson Costa, as well as UFOP faculty members and Gorceix Foundation directors.
