The Brazilian Mining Association (IBRAM –, represented by the Director of Environmental Affairs, Rinaldo Mancin, visited on May 29, the Department of Mineralogy and Geology of the Center of Technology and Mineral Resources of the University of Campina Grande (UFCG), in the state of Paraíba. Mancin was welcomed by the Academic Prefect, Eduardo Bonates and by the Center's Professor and Director, Elbert Valdiviezo Viera. The aim of the meeting was to present the World Mining Congress (WMC), a global mining event to be organized by IBRAM in 2016, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
At the occasion, the UFCG, in a partnership with the Federation of Industries of the State of Paraíba (FIEP), promoted the conference "Mining: Potentialities and Trends in the State of Paraíba". The event was attended by the FIEP CEO, Francisco de Assis Benevides Buega Gadelha, who presented the lecture "Mining Potentialities in the State of Paraíba and its importance of the Business Sector". On the occasion, he presented the work Opportunity Map of the State of Paraíba - Potential Areas for Investment, which was recently developed by FIEP.
According to the Association's Director of Environmental Affairs, Rinaldo Mancin, the visits were part of the IBRAM strategy of intensifying contacts with Brazilian universities that have stood out in the training of mining professionals.
According to Mancin, UFCG's participation and support are paramount for the insertion of WMC in the Northeast region of Brazil. "UFCG has stood out in the training of mining professionals and is currently a national reference", he says. Mancin also stated that "the high level of competence of this university in the field of information technology and process automation is going to be a highlight at the WMC 2016".
The WMC is a global mining event, held every three years, sob headed by a Secretariat with an organization status, associated with the United Nations and based at the Central Mining Institute in Katowice, Poland. The event aims to promote and support, both technically and scientifically, the cooperation for the national and international development of mineral areas and resources; implement a global information network concerning mineral science, technology, economy, occupational health and safety and environmental protection.
