Mining "Futurist" will debate competitiveness, innovation and sustainable growth at WMC 2016.

In his talk, George Hemingway will show that paying close attention to innovative tools is the best way to get ahead of competitors.

One of the most eagerly awaited international guest speakers of the 24th edition of the World Mining Congress, one of the most important world mining events, George Hemingway, the partner and head of the Innovative Practices department of the New York consulting company Stratalis Consulting, believes innovation is the key to success. Considered a "futurist" of the mineral industry, on the 19th October, Hemingway will cover subjects that are of crucial importance to companies: competitiveness, innovation and sustainable growth.

Through his talk "The future of the industry and how mining companies can reinvent themselves to grow without losing their identity", George will demonstrate the importance of using strategies that break away from tradition and adopt innovative techniques in the industrial area to overcome current challenges. "It's important to form a vision of the future to know how to invest in innovation within the mineral industry", he states.

In Hemingway's opinion, the mineral sector is about to go through a big change and this is an excellent opportunity to prepare for the future. "Winston Churchill, one of the most traditional British politicians, once said: 'Never waste a good crisis'. There are no truer words than these and their value to the mining is huge."

The consultant also explained that mining companies need to focus their efforts on technology that enables operational automation, scalability, and predictability; and investments from organizations to facilitate the construction of foreseeable scenarios and business models that offer diverse options. "By acting in this way, they will be prepared to grow when times are good and react when things take a downturn. It's necessary to look to the future with flexibility whilst maintaining focus on the present", he added.

In his opinion, the most solid companies will be those that know how to take advantage of the moment to "innovate and build adaptable and flexible models and operations, with a focus on the future". "The capacity to adapt to change is crucial for the development of the sector and the speed required by the market is increasingly greater. Companies must react in the best possible way in order to not lose competitiveness. Pay attention to new technology and stay ahead of the competition." he finished.
