MURILO FERREIRA CONFIRMS HIS PARTICIPATION AT THE WORLD MINING CONGRESS

The CEO of Vale S.A., one of the biggest and most important companies currently operating in Brazil, Murilo Ferreira, will attend the 24th edition of the World Mining Congress. The event, which is being organized by the Brazilian Mining Association - IBRAM, will take place between the 18th and 21st October in the city of Rio de Janeiro (RJ) and will be attended by important national and international players of the mineral sector.

Murilo Ferreira will take part in the opening ceremony and shortly after in a talk show format on "Mining in a World of Innovation: the miners of the future". In this conversation moderated by Gillian Davidson, Director of Mining and Metals at the World Economic Forum, Ferreira will discuss the main strategies and challenges of modern mining with presidents of large Brazilian companies.

"Along with the positive macroeconomic impacts, in the case of Brazil, mining has also consolidated itself as a driver of social development, above all, due to its promotion of multiple other economic activities, thus contributing to the expansion of various productive chains and, therefore, to the creation of jobs and income", highlights Murilo, emphasising the importance of discussing mining in the modern day context. "It's important to remember that, in those municipalities where mining companies operate, the Human Development Index (HDI) has been higher than that of their respective states and often surpasses that of non-productive municipalities", he adds.

Ferreira underlines the importance of IBRAM's role in organizing the first Brazilian edition of one of the most traditional world mining events, the World Mining Congress. "Hosting the 24th edition of the World Mining Congress in Brazil and, more importantly, its organization by an entity the quality of IBRAM, is an important milestone and an excellent opportunity for the sector to exchange ideas, discuss, reflect, and identify stimuli and feasible ways forward at a moment in which we need to face the end of the ore super-cycle.", he states. "The congress theme - 'Mining in a World of Innovation' - could not be more appropriate and I'm certain that, following the conclusion of the congress, promising courses of action will be mapped out to strengthen the world mining industry", he finishes.
