WMC 2016: PANEL DISCUSSES PROPOSALS FOR OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY IN THE MINING SECTOR

Occupational health and safety (OHS) continues to be one of the largest challenges in the mineral sector. The subject, which has been receiving constant and growing investments from mining companies, and especially, IBRAM, by means of the MINERAÇÃO Program, will debated at the 24th edition of the WMC. The event, which is promoted by IBRAM, is considered to be one of the most important mining events in the world and will occur between October 18th and 21st in Rio de Janeiro.

The occupational health and safety panel will take place on the morning of October 19th and will include the participation of Helmut Ehnes, the Secretary General of ISSA Mining; Claudia Pellegrinelli, the coordinator of the MINERAÇÃO Program; Ulrich Meesmann, President of ISSA Mining; Cristian Moraga, vice president of ISSA Mining; Gabriel Martinez Ortega, corporate and training manager of the Prodeco Group; Fernando Borja, general manager of the Peruvian Institute of Mining Safety and Ovidio Roberto Hermosilla Colmenares, Representative of Cimentos Progresso.

Claudia Pellegrinelli firmly believes that the discussion reinforces concerns about occupational hazards and risks in the mineral industry. “This is a subject which should be in constant debate. We need to increase discussions about OHS in a way that contributes to the development of better preventative measures in order to reach an ideal level with the lowest possible accident indices, guaranteeing the health of all employees who are part of the process.”

Being that the WMC is an international event that brings global leaders and specialists in the mining, energy and mineral processing industries together, Rinaldo Mancin, director of environmental matters at IBRAM, believes that it will be an excellent opportunity for mining professionals to share insights concerning innovations, advances and trends that are shaping the future of the industry in the field of OHS.
