Obtaining Visas for Brazil

A visa is a document granted by overseas Brazilian diplomatic and consular entities, which enables the entry and stay of foreigners within the national territory, as long as the conditions of current legislation are met.

The visa confers the expectation of the right to entry by the foreigner to the national territory, however it does not guarantee it. Your entry could be prevented or your stay reduced if it is deemed in the national interest, as the issue of a visa is an act of the discretionary power of the Brazilian state.

The Ministry of External Relations is responsible for issuing visas, via overseas Brazilian Embassies, Consulate Generals, Consulates and Vice Consulates.

The visas are classified according to the nature of the trip and stay in Brazil, and not the passport presented.

IMPORTANT: Scientists, professors or researchers who are coming to Brazil to participate in the World Mining Congress should request a Tourist Visa (VITUR).
